Persian and Oriental Rug Cleaning from Silk Road Gallery Rugs
When properly cleaned and maintained, fine Persian and Oriental rugs from Silk Road Gallery will last a lifetime. While prevention is critical, periodic professional cleaning of your handmade rug is necessary for the optimal preservation of your Persian or oriental rug. Every rug we bring in is thoroughly inspected to determine how it should be cleaned and whether it needs restoration. When cleaning each rug, we take care of it as if it were our very own.
Our Persian and Oriental Rug Cleaning Process
The first step is to dust the rug very thoroughly. We turn each rug upside down and then beat it from the back, until there is no dust left. After the rug is thoroughly dusted, we wash or shampoo it. We wash or shampoo each rug by hand with a soft brush so as not to damage the rug. Depending on the strength of the dyes, and the age and condition of the rug, we determine the strength of the shampoo to be used and how the rug should be washed. After washing or shampooing, each rug is laid flat and allowed to dry naturally. This process takes longer than just hanging up the rug, but it is a lot less stressful on the foundation of the rug. Once thoroughly dried, the rug is rubbed with a pumice stone to rejuvenate the lanolin and make the rug look its very best. The fringes are then combed and evened out, and the rug is once again inspected. The rug is now ready for delivery or further restoration.
